August is a month when deep green foliage is illuminated by midsummer sunlight alongside the joy of national liberation. In commemoration of the 81st Liberation Day, the Open Forest Mugunghwa Garden proudly presents the special exhibition 《Mugunghwa, A Midsummer Watercolor》. Running from August 1 to August 18, 2026, this exhibition captures the elegant yet resilient beauty of the Mugunghwa blooming in the heart of summer, much like the gentle strokes of a watercolor painting.

This exhibition features a rich collection of 6,086 Mugunghwa trees, along with various strains and varieties such as Hongdansim (red-centered), Baekdansim (pure white with red center), and Cheongdansim (bluish-centered). In addition, visitors can admire 36 potted Mugunghwa plants and 22 bonsai trees boasting exceptional forms, as well as carefully selected entries from the outstanding potted plant competition.

Notably, the ‘Gyeongbok High School Mugunghwa Successor Tree’ (designated as a "Beautiful Tree of Jongno District"), revived through Seoul Botanic Park's plant genetic resource conservation technology, will be unveiled to the public for the first time through this exhibition. Experience firsthand the enduring vitality of the Mugunghwa and its profound historical significance.

This August, as we reflect on the meaning of liberation, may our cherished history and memories bloom endlessly just like the Mugunghwa.

“Remember the meaning of liberation together with the newly blooming Mugunghwa.”

Visit Seoul Botanic Park with your family and enjoy the beautiful Mugunghwa.
